For their Present Box exhibition, Kristen Hatgi Sink and Jillian FitzMaurice will fill BMoCA’s lobby and front entrance with giant white glitter-filled balloons and a specially-commissioned video installation that will transform the space into a stage set for two live performances. The new video work flickers between images of broken butterfly wings, mounds of flowers, and sweet treats, and teeters between whimsical fantasy and deleterious consumption. Watching, we move through emotions reminiscent of a sugar high: indulging in the initial rush and then succumbing to the empty stillness as we come down, like a giant balloon of glitter pierced by an arrow.

Kristen Hatgi Sink’s exploration into video installation is an extension of her photographic practice that is planned in coordination with Month of Photography 2015. Bon Bon: Kristen Hatgi Sink and Jillian FitzMaurice is an exhibition curated by Mardee Goff and presented at Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art as part of BMoCA Present Box. Present Box is a series of temporary exhibitions that invite artists to transform BMoCA’s lobby and front entrance into innovative installations, performances, and events that last two weeks. Presented three times a year, the site-specific projects are intended to encourage artists to create work outside their comfort zone and to foster interactive participation. The exhibitions encourage experimentation and urge artists to test ideas and explore different approaches. Present Box exhibitions are always free and open to the public.
